Guild Wars 2 is finally coming to Steam, more than a decade after its initial release. The long-running MMO hits Valve's storefront Aug. 23, marking the first time it's ever been available on a third-party platform. But after all those years on the market, potential new players may wonder how healthy the game's community is.
Luckily for those hoping to dip their toes into one of the OG MMORPGs, player counts appear to remain high in Guild Wars 2. The last official count from development studio ArenaNet came in 2013, when the game had around 460,000 active players. MMO Population, which estimates player counts based on Reddit activity, suggests the game has around 310,000 daily active players.
Those numbers aren't very strong indicators in a vacuum, but they're useful as comparison points against other MMOs. The game ranks 12th in estimated active players on MMO Population, ahead of MapleStory, The Elder Scrolls Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic and New World.
Guild Wars 2's arrival on Steam comes hot on the heels of the latest installment of the game's End of Dragons in-game event. These two events will likely boost player counts even higher, making it a great time to jump in.
