Nintendo and Microsoft have both responded to news of Sony's plans to raise the price of the PlayStation 5 in several major markets, with both console manufacturers saying they have no intentions to do the same.

Sony announced new, higher prices for the PlayStation 5 across Europe, the U.K., Japan, China, Australia, Mexico and Canada on Thursday, citing "high global inflation rates, as well as adverse currency trends."

When reached for comment by Eurogamer, Microsoft said, "We are constantly evaluating our business to offer our fans great gaming options." The company went on to say that the "Xbox Series S suggested retail price remains from £249.99 and the Xbox Series X is from £449.99."

Nintendo separately told VGC it similarly has no plans to raise the price of the Switch, and referred it to a statement made to shareholders in June by Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa.

"While we cannot comment on pricing strategies, we currently do not have any plans to change the price of our hardware due to inflation or increased procurement costs in each country. We will determine our future pricing strategies through careful and continued deliberations," Furukawa said at the time.
