Pokémon GO New Year's 2023: Everything You Need to Know

Pokémon GO wants to start 2023 on the right foot so after the second part of the Winter Holiday event ends, another holiday celebration is already here. From 8 p.m. local time on Dec. 31 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 4 trainers can ring in 2023 with Pokémon GO's New Year Celebration. Here is the breakdown of the festivities.

Pokémon GO New Year's 2023 Event Bonuses

For this event, there will be special bonuses applied to hatching Pokémon eggs. Eggs placed in incubators will only require half the walking distance to hatch. For those that use the Pokémon GO Egg hatching widget, your first three eggs hatched during the event will only need a quarter of the distance. These bonuses will not stack so do not expect to instantly hatch eggs. Fireworks will also be fired off in the sky to celebrate the New Year.

Pokémon GO New Year's 2023 Pokémon Debut

To celebrate the New Year a variation of Pikachu wearing a celebratory top hat and Noctowl wearing a New Year’s outfit will be added during the event.

Wild Encounters

During the event, these Pokémon will appear frequently in the wild:

  • Pikachu wearing a party top hat
  • Hoothoot wearing a New Year’s outfit
  • Wurmple wearing a party hat

Egg Pokémon

Trainers can expect these Pokémon to hatch from seven kilometer eggs:

  • Pichu wearing a party hat
  • Cleffa
  • Igglybuff
  • Togepi
  • Tyrogue
  • Smoochum
  • Elekid
  • Magby
  • Azurill
  • Wynaut

Raids

These Pokémon will appear in Raids during the event:

One-Star Raids

  • Bulbasaur wearing a party hat
  • Charmander wearing a party hat
  • Squirtle wearing a party hat
  • Pikachu wearing a party top hat
  • Hoothoot wearing a New Year’s outfit

Three-Star Raids

  • Raticate wearing a party hat
  • Nidorino wearing a party hat
  • Gengar wearing a party hat
  • Wobbuffet wearing a party hat

Five-Star Raids

Reshiram will have the feature move Fusion Flare which will have 90 Power during Trainer Battles and 140 Power during Gyms and Raids.

There will be two avatar items to unlock for the event. Trainers can equipped their avatars with an unlockable Pikachu Party Hat and a Party Popper Pose. New stickers can also be unlocked by opening gifts or purchasing them in the shop.

Players can also expect a new Collection Challenge and Field Research Task to complete.
