Rushing Through 'Star Wars Jedi: Survivor' Produces an Error Message

Anyone attempting to speedrun through Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be shown a warning message and told the game is in a "broken state."

Speedrunning is a well-known act of attempting to play through a video game as quickly as possible. Typically, that involves discovering exploits to bypass large sections of a game and in particular story elements. There's even charity events involving speedrunning games. However, in what may be a first for a video game, such behavior in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will result in a warning message being displayed.

As Eurogamer reports, when Jedi: Survivor detects story elements have been bypassed an "Unexpected Error" pop-up will appear over the gameplay.

The pop-up explains: "You seem to have bypassed certain story elements. Continuing to play from this point may encounter issues. If you choose to proceed anyway, loading any future Saves from the Title Screen will give you the option to reload prior to this point."

The player is then given the option of proceeding, but in the knowledge the game may be in a "broken state." Alternatively, they can load "the last good save" and therefore "avoid game breaking issues."

The warning message is sure to frustrate speedrunners because ultimately it interrupts and slows down their playthrough purely to point out something they have done on purpose. It's unclear why EA and Respawn felt including this message was necessary when you consider the majority of players won't search out exploits in order to avoid large sections of the game.
