QUEBEC, CANADA: Gambling content on Twitch has a long and terrible history, as the platform ended up banning gambling-related streams. The decision had streamers moving to rival platforms like Kick, as they have fewer restrictions.
xQc was one of the most well-known figures in the Twitch era of sponsored gambling streams, regularly attracting tens of thousands of viewers as he played virtual slots for hours until it was banned on the platform. As a result, xQc has long complained about Twitch's restrictions on gambling streams. Recently, he addressed how some gambling streamers criticized gambling broadcasts even after receiving offers for such streams.
'F**king insane'
xQc has been harshly attacking Twitch and its streams for their position on gambling promotions since he just signed a deal with Kick. In a recent stream, xQc discussed his early adoption of Kick and gave his fans an explanation of why he decided to go "all in" rather than wait to use it like other streamers who have been skeptical of the platform. He asserted in this tirade that the same Kick streamers were receiving Twitch offers for gambling streams and then implied that when they were lowballed on these proposals, they turned around and criticized gambling broadcasts on the Amazon-owned platform without mentioning any specific personalities in the area.
“The same people, as in back in the [gambling] days way back when, asked for the same deals, I saw all the logs all of them, they were like “oh dude can I get this? Can I get that?” and they didn’t get the same deal as the [streamers] above them. So they all went "Oh my god", the next day, 12 hours later, "gambling is disgusting" I can’t believe they do that," xQc said in the video, adding, "It’s the same people that did that in the gambling days that now do that with the Kick s***, and it’s f**king insane. I just don’t understand how that’s such a standardized behavior."
Twitch streamers move to Kick
Kick has established itself as a streaming service that can compete with Twitch and YouTube. With the now-defunct Mixer, not even Microsoft could threaten its hegemony. In a short time, Kick has managed to sign a number of well-known streamers and grow its following, much to the astonishment of many streaming aficionados. The major pull for most creators is that on Kick, broadcasters earn 95% of the revenue from subscribers while just 5% goes to the platform. Additionally, streamers get 100% of tips, which is a great bargain compared to Twitch's 70% to 30% split.
Apart from xQc, on June 18, Amouranth announced joining Kick, making her one of the most well-known stars to do so for the young platform. Although the specifics of her deal with Kick have not been made public, it is most certainly a lucrative one. Similarly, streamers such as Adin Ross, Trainwreck, and Destiny have also moved to Kick from the Amazon-owned platform.
